Join over 90,000 members of Pittsburgh’s refugee and immigrant community on Wednesday, June 17th to celebrate World Refugee Day and Immigrant Heritage Month, honoring the strength, courage, and perseverance of 70 million displaced people worldwide forced to leave their homes in fear of conflict or persecution to start a new life with their families.
This year’s events will be delivered virtually at isacpittsburgh.org/wrd and will include videos, photos, and stories from dancers, singers, and poets, as well as local refugees and immigrants talking about their personal experiences. The day’s events will also feature cooking demonstrations, a food blog, and an online marketplace for immigrant-owned businesses!
All are welcome to join celebrations! Demonstrate support of refugee and immigrant neighbors by joining online throughout the day, testing recipes on the food blog, purchasing from immigrant and refugee artists and craftsmen, and buying takeout and delivery from immigrant and refugee-owned restaurants on June 17.
Guest speakers will include Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald, City of Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto, USCIS Pittsburgh Field Office Director Michael Vorhath, US Representative Mike Doyle, and World Refugee Day Pittsburgh’s 2020 host Siraji Hassan, President of United Somali Bantu of Greater Pittsburgh.
