This year, the JFCS Squirrel Hill Food Pantry was one of four organizations in Pittsburgh to receive the Pursuer of Peace Award from Rodef Shalom. While the award is traditionally given biannually to an individual making a difference in the community, this year, it was presented to four organizations that are fighting food insecurity in Pittsburgh–JFCS, Just Harvest, 412 Food Rescue, and Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.
In addition to the award, each organization received a monetary award of $5000. “It’s very humbling to have the community recognize the hard work that the wonderful team at the pantry does,” said Matthew Bolton, Director of JFCS Squirrel Hill Food Pantry. “It was very inspiring to see that we all work together and to see just how specifically Rodef Shalom has been a part of fighting food insecurity with us. It’s a reminder that we’re not alone in this challenging time, and we were happy to be a part of it.”
The pantry was honored to be recognized for their work with the Pursuer of Peace Award. JFCS is thankful for a generous and supportive community that has continued to help us fight to end food insecurity in our region.
