JFCS Squirrel Hill Food Pantry is kicking off its annual High Holiday Food Drive on September 1st. The Food Pantry invites you and/or your local congregation to hold a food drive through the high holidays. Non-perishable food items can be collected at your congregation and then brought to the Pantry.
“Like so many holidays, the approaching Jewish holidays are wrapped up in tradition, giving and food,” said Matthew Bolton, director of the Pantry. “When so many of us gather with our families around abundant tables, it’s hard not to think about those who are not so fortunate.”
Non-perishable food items can be collected at your congregation and then brought to the Pantry. Kosher and non-kosher foods are welcome; JFCS Squirrel Hill Food Pantry is the only pantry in the region that provides kosher food.
Any group, family or individual is invited to participate; most drives have been organized by synagogues and congregations. Financial contributions are also welcome in lieu of holding an actual food drive. The Food Pantry can purchase food in bulk and make your donations go even further. Make a financial donation here.
Don’t forget that during this harvest season, fresh produce is always welcome at the Pantry. If your garden is producing more than you can use, please consider dropping extra veggies off at the Pantry during regular business hours.
