As November marks National Adoption Month, it is a time for adoptive families to celebrate their families and a time for agencies and organizations to raise awareness about adoption services and support. JF&CS’s Family Hope Connection (FHC) is a licensed adoption and foster care agency, working every day to find permanent, safe and loving homes for children in need of adoption.
FHC provides services for birth parents, families considering adoption, children in the foster care system and families who have adopted and need ongoing support, whether domestic or international.
In Tuesday’s edition of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, JoAnn White, director of Family Hope Connection, was interviewed to discuss the post-adoption services and support FHC provides for adoptive families. Several families who used FHC’s post-adoption services after finalizing their international adoptions were interviewed as well.

Post adoption services can help families and adoptive children adjust to new challenges and strengthen relationships, and can include counseling and connections to additional community resources.
For moms who have adopted internationally, our Mom’s Coffee Club is a support group where moms can get together over coffee and tea, and share common experiences and exchange suggestions and advice. Mom’s Coffee Club meets the last Friday of each month at the JF&CS offices in Squirrel Hill. The group is facilitated by JF&CS Squirrel Hill Psychological Services’ Bari Benjamin, who, in addition to being a therapist, is the mother of a teen adopted as an infant from outside the U.S.
The next Mom’s Coffee Club meeting is scheduled for Friday, November 30th from 10 – 11:30 a.m. To register or learn more about the group, contact Bari at 412.422.4700 or bbenjamin@squirrelhillpsych.org.
