Program Assistant, Arielle, went to Congregation Beth Samuel this past month for some Tu BiShvat celebrations! Several congregations in the area merged to form the Beth Samuel Jewish Center. They take a contemporary approach to Jewish life, integrating a deep respect for traditional Judaism. The center focuses on insights and ideas of contemporary social, intellectual and spiritual life. They also believe in the value of Tikkun Olam and make an effort to try and heal the world through social action, helping others understand the need to contribute to the greater good.
Using their religious school Tzedakah funds, Beth Samuel purchased snack pack items for their social action project that day. To incorporate the Tu BiShvat theme, they purchased juice boxes, trail mix, and raisins to include in the bags. These snack bags get distributed to the JFCS Squirrel Hill Food Pantry so that clients with young children can have a delicious and healthy anytime snack.
With everyone’s help, we were able to pack 56 snack packs for our clients! To brighten our client’s day even further, the kids took the time to decorate each bag with well wishes and words of encouragement. Thanks to Congregation Beth Samuel for a fantastic event!
